Houses fall

Greece. Egypt. The river cities. Rome.

People raised mountains of stone with no steel. Then the knowledge walked away. Mesopotamia, Greece, Egypt, Rome — the stone still stands. The house does not. The pyramids are not proof that the old physics was better. They are proof that skill can vanish. A civilization dies when the ground fails, or when war and waste eat the seed corn, or when the people who carry craft are spent.

Waste

Luxury that trains no builder is a candle eating itself.

If a dollar does not train a builder, backup a house, restore a craft, or put the light in another room, it is waste. The mind locked to a thing that dies with the planet is not a plan. We should be training people to live in ice, sea, desert, zero gravity, and on other worlds. Culture that cannot found its own house is already falling.

Builders

Dining rooms flew. A stadium rose in three years.

In the 1930s, airships carried dining rooms across oceans — real rooms in the sky, not hotels the size of three cities. Dodger Stadium was begun in 1959 and opened in 1962: about three years, not one. Builders finish when they are allowed to found the work. When a person cannot start a house — or when the ones they love are taken — the will to build dies.

Fitness is not a shield

The strongest mind still dies in ice and war.

Neanderthals had large brains, tools, and signs. They are gone about forty thousand years. Ice came. Animals were hunted. People were hunted. Luck, climate, and the human factor ate houses that thought they were the fittest. Catastrophe does not grade on merit. That is why backup is the work — not a breeding rule.

Mercury and Venus

The inner worlds meet the red giant in about five billion years.

When the Sun leaves the main sequence it swells. Mercury and Venus are expected to be engulfed. Earth may or may not be swallowed — the models still argue. That is not a one-billion-year event. The nearer fact is worse for a living world: a slowly brightening star, a hotter climate, a biosphere that may have one to two billion years left. Use the window. Do not wait for the red giant.

Carbon keeps the biology. Silicon keeps the hours.

If a bloodline, a craft, a family is to outlast one house, the work must live in more than flesh. Silicon sits under carbon in group 14. The Si–O bond is strong; the Si–Si bond is not. That is why rock is silicate and life is carbon. Silicon-carbide electronics already run past temperatures tissue cannot. Robotics is the little brother: a durable record and a durable pair of hands. It is not a claim that people become quartz. It is not a new air we brew in a garage. Machines do not grow lungs. People and machines can share a closed room with made oxygen. That is life support. That is backup.
